Jimmy Rollins was able to walk outside and watch his Phillies teammates take batting practice at Citizens Bank Park on Tuesday. He wasn’t stuck inside on the athletic trainer’s table. That, he said, was progress.

“I couldn’t walk on it when I left the park yesterday,” he said Tuesday afternoon, 24 hours after fouling a ball off his left foot. “Today, I can walk on it. It feels 100 percent better. If that type of progress continues, I’ll be able to go in a day or two.”

An X-ray performed on Rollins’ foot after Monday’s game was negative. However, he was still sore and bruised when he reported to the ballpark on Tuesday so manager Charlie Manuel held him out of the starting lineup. Shane Victorino moved into the leadoff spot and Wilson Valdez got the start at shortstop.
