I'm fine with Manning as a 7. Don't like him as a regular.

As for Gudas, I think he's one of the most underrated defensemen in the league & a solid 2nd pairing guy.

I've been largely disappointed for like 5 years, so I'm used to it.

Do I think they WILL make a trade that's not just a pick swap, giving Vegas a pick to take someone or trading up/down? Maybe 30%
Do I think they'll make a significant trade of any kind? Maybe 25%
Do I think they'll draft and sign some marginal player to fill a roster spot we already have filled by others? 75%

As far as the Manning, Gudas, etc debate goes, all I'll say is this.....

If you're going to go with Neuvirth/Stolarz or Neuvirth/Bernier or the like AND you're intending to have your defense be Provorov, Ghost, MacDonald, Gudas, Manning, Morin and Hagg, I think you're in for a long freaking year of rookie mistakes, accentuated by goaltenders who aren't equipped to prevent those mistakes from ending up as goals. I'd be happy to see Provorov, Ghost, Morin and Hagg in regular roles, all at the same time, but I'd be staggered if the Flyers don't go out, at some point and sign some veteran D on a 1 year deal. If you're sort of tanking, don't bother. If you're legitimately trying to make the playoffs, I'd sooner be scratching Manning and MacDonald, if Morin and Hagg do even better than expected and if not, I'd sooner have options to send 1 of them back to the AHL or let them learn at a slower pace in the NHL.
Much like Ron Hextall, I will not mortgage my future posts on rental posts.

Duchene looked awesome on coutuiers rw at the world championships. Only way I am ok with giving couts another chance is if duchene is on his right side.

I don't know what it'd take to get Duchene, but it seems like Colorado still wanted top dollar via trade. I'm assuming the same would be said of Landeskog.

Assuming we are going to have Provorov and Ghost, along with 2 of Morin, Hagg, Sanhiem and Myers on D this year, with MacDonald, Manning and Gudas, all signed and a couple other, less well known D prospects in the system, you would have to think if the right deal came along 1 of them could move. The problem is, even if you do open yourself up to that possibility, teams like Anaheim have D that are ready, well known and likely, available.

A number of interesting names should be in play this offseason....

Drouin (who was already traded once to STL, but didn't move, because Shattenkirk had a NTC)
Duchene (Colorado clearly wants to move him and it would seem he's ready for a fresh start by watching his interviews)
Landeskog (I'm not sure Colorado really wants to move him)
Fowler (Seems they're looking at losing a D if they don't move one)
    Vatanen
Silfverberg (Could be lost in expansion depending what Anaheim chooses to do)

I'm sure there are many others, this is just off the top of my head

I just hope they aren't the ones that trade for Eberle.

I watched a good bit of the Gold medal game and no one looked good on both team. Wayne Simmonds was terrible. Giroux looked the same. A good player who used to be great. Couturier still can't finish. The Avs players were like soft porn....left you wanting more. It was a terrible game with really no scoring chances. Nothing should be taken away from that Tournament.....absolutely nothing.

The only thing I can take away from that tournament is other countries players and fans take it more seriously than the US and Canada.

Absolutely agree, though I think they need to focus on having a better goaltending tandem than the above - regardless of whether they are "sort of" tanking or trying to make the POs. It will be a challenge to develop the young d-men in an environment where their mistakes end up in the net too often. Likewise, I don't think it would be beneficial to Stolarz' development if he ends up as a full-time starter (e.g., because Neuvirth gets hurt) and has to deal with the mistakes of a young d-corps in front of him night in and night out. Of course, the question is: Who among UFA goaltenders fits that bill and is willing to sign a "term friendly" contract in order to not be an obstacle to one of the young kids taking the starter reigns in 2-3 years? Might one be available in a trade?

One of Hagg, Morin, Sanheim or Myers will be on the roster come opening night (I think Hagg), but I don't think you'll see two of them unless there is an injury or one of them has a stellar camp. So, I do think they will sign another vet dman this offseason with Manning being the 7th dman.
