Tidal - agree with your posts. The way the team is currently constructed (including prospects in the pipeline), you have to pivot one way or the other. Hextall seems to be shooting the middle, and that rarely ever works.

How many players are "elite" in this league?

    10?

And how many of those 10 were drafted in the top 2 or 3 picks in their draft year?

    Pretty much.

    Elite forwards.

    Crosby
    Malkin
    Kane
    McDavid
    Ovechkin

    Who else?

To me - elite is the ability to dominate season after season. Giroux had that at one point. He had a much better supporting cast than he has now, the last time he was in that position.

But I don't think you need to have elite forwards to win a cup. Just all-star caliber forwards and depth. They're better now with that with konecny healthy and Filppula.

More important is high level defense and goaltending. They don't have that.

LA and Boston won cups with elite goaltending (those years) and defense. Neither had elite forwards.

The Flyers currently have nothing that's elite. We have to hope that the defense and goaltending becomes elite through the prospects.

What, you don't think Carter, Richards and Williams are elite?

Kopitar isn't have bad and Brown was pretty damn solid

No one said they didn't have "decent" or "damn solid". The question was "elite".

The Voracek signing was a bust....move on now before its too late.
Then there is no point in making the trade and that's my point.

Voracek is more than a Top 6 forward. He's a Top Line forward in the NHL even when having a disappointing year, sitting at 29th in scoring for forwards this season so he obviously averages out as a #1 over 30 teams. Also, Since 2013 /14 Jake is 15th overall in scoring for forwards in the league. 4th for RWs behind Kane, Wheeler and Kessler.

As I posted above. Teams can win with solid forward depth without elite players. Much more difficult without elite defense and goaltending.
