Giroux: 'We gotta find a way' after Flyers lose Game 3

Claude Giroux stepped up to a makeshift podium in an unused locker room and held a water bottle. He knew what was coming — questions about the power play.

The Flyers had not one, but two man-advantages in overtime and couldn’t capitalize on either one. The punishment was an odd-man rush three minutes after the second power play and Alexei Ponikarovsky ending Game 3 in dramatic fashion with a 4-3 win.

Giroux gripped a water bottle and braced himself. He has one goal in the series

Flyers beat Devils, lead Turnpike Series

By Dave Isaac

They’re not in Pittsburgh anymore, Toto. But, for all their missteps and outright blunders, the Flyers still seem to have the yellow brick road paving their way.

The Orange and Black overcame a week’s full of rust, manifested in a shaky first period, to steady themselves and eventually open the Eastern Conference semifinals with a stirring 4-3 overtime win Sunday over the Devils.
Flyers close out series with Game 6 victory

From the time the hated Penguins were putting the finishing touches on a seven-goal beatdown of the Flyers in Game 4, a feeling of dread began to permeate Philadelphia.

Could the Flyers really blow this series?

Thanks to Claude Giroux, Ilya Bryzgalov and a fierce defense, which blocked an astounding 40 shots, it turned out to be nothing but a false alarm.*

Giroux's goal at the :32 mark set the tone for the day and the Flyers never let up

Bryz-aster strikes Flyers as Penguins avoid the brooms

On Sunday afternoon, the Flyers said all the right things. The unsuspecting young team was the underdog in the series, yet still took a commanding 3-0 lead over the Penguins.

"If there's a team that can come back from 3-0 this year I think it's them," Claude Giroux said Sunday after a goal and an assist in an 8-4 win. "So we need to understand that. We need to make sure that we're focused for Wednesday."

So much for that. The Flyers looked like they were already on what would have been

Flyers beat Penguins 8-4, take 3-0 series lead (AP)

PHILADELPHIA (AP) Fists were flying faster than shots on goal. Sidney Crosby and Claude Giroux even became knotted in the pushing, pulling and shoving, a pair of superstars willing to mix it up to prove which team was the baddest on the ice and the scoreboard.

The Penguins and Flyers talked trash, laid the smack down, and played one wildly entertaining game. The result was still the same. The Flyers rallied from another early deficit for a decisive Game 3 victory that placed them on the brink of an improbable sweep.<br
PITTSBURGH (AP) The Philadelphia Flyers fell behind. Again. And it didn't matter. Again.

Who needs the first period anyway? Not the Flyers, who keep finding increasingly inventive ways to stun the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Claude Giroux had three goals and three assists to set a franchise record for points in a playoff game, rookie Sean Couturier had a hat trick of his own and Philadelphia rallied for a wild 8-5 victory Friday night in Game 2 of the Eastern Conference quarterfinal series.<br
PHILADELPHIA (AP) Joe Blanton is back on the mound and back on his game. His right elbow feels fine again.

Blanton pitched seven strong innings, Shane Victorino and Ty Wigginton homered, and the Philadelphia Phillies beat Miami 3-1 on Thursday night in the Marlins' second game without suspended manager Ozzie Guillen.
Blanton (1-1) allowed three hits and a run in his first start following an injury-plagued season. Blanton had two lengthy

Burrell will sign 1-day deal and retire a Phillie (AP)

PHILADELPHIA (AP) Former Philadelphia Phillies outfielder Pat Burrell will sign a one-day minor league contract and retire with the organization.

Burrell will officially retire as a Phillie during the Boston Red Sox series in May at Citizens Bank Park. He'll be honored May 19 and throw out the ceremonial first pitch.

The Phillies selected Burrell with the No. 1 overall pick in the 1998 draft. He played nine seasons with the Phillies and is fourth in team history in home runs (251), eighth in RBIs (827), and ninth in extra-base hits (518).
PHILADELPHIA (AP) Roy Halladay's presence was a bigger obstacle for the Miami Marlins than Ozzie Guillen's absence.

Halladay threw seven sharp innings and the Philadelphia Phillies broke out of their offensive slump, beating the Marlins 7-1 on Wednesday night in Miami's first game without its suspended manager.

Guillen was suspended five games by the Marlins on Tuesday for saying he admired Cuban dictator Fidel Castro. Bench coach
PITTSBURGH (AP) Jakub Voracek has no idea how good the Philadelphia Flyers could be if they played 60 full minutes, or beyond.

At the moment, it's hardly necessary.

Voracek beat Marc-Andre Fleury from in close 2:23 into overtime to give the Flyers a 4-3 comeback victory over the Pittsburgh Penguins on Wednesday night in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference quarterfinal series.
