They�re not in Pittsburgh anymore, Toto. But, for all their missteps and outright blunders, the Flyers still seem to have the yellow brick road paving their way.

The Orange and Black overcame a week�s full of rust, manifested in a shaky first period, to steady themselves and eventually open the Eastern Conference semifinals with a stirring 4-3 overtime win Sunday over the Devils.

From the time the hated Penguins were putting the finishing touches on a seven-goal beatdown of the Flyers in Game 4, a feeling of dread began to permeate Philadelphia.

On Sunday afternoon, the Flyers said all the right things. The unsuspecting young team was the underdog in the series, yet still took a commanding 3-0 lead over the Penguins.

"If there's a team that can come back from 3-0 this year I think it's them," Claude Giroux said Sunday after a goal and an assist in an 8-4 win. "So we need to understand that. We need to make sure that we're focused for Wednesday."

PHILADELPHIA (AP) Fists were flying faster than shots on goal. Sidney Crosby and Claude Giroux even became knotted in the pushing, pulling and shoving, a pair of superstars willing to mix it up to prove which team was the baddest on the ice and the scoreboard.

The Penguins and Flyers talked trash, laid the smack down, and played one wildly entertaining game. The result was still the same. The Flyers rallied from another early deficit for a decisive Game 3 victory that placed them on the brink of an improbable sweep.

Who needs the first period anyway? Not the Flyers, who keep finding increasingly inventive ways to stun the Pittsburgh Penguins.

PHILADELPHIA (AP) Former Philadelphia Phillies outfielder Pat Burrell will sign a one-day minor league contract and retire with the organization.

Burrell will officially retire as a Phillie during the Boston Red Sox series in May at Citizens Bank Park. He'll be honored May 19 and throw out the ceremonial first pitch.

The Phillies selected Burrell with the No. 1 overall pick in the 1998 draft. He played nine seasons with the Phillies and is fourth in team history in home runs (251), eighth in RBIs (827), and ninth in extra-base hits (518).
