Union Head To Houston Down A Goal
By Philly Sports Daily Staff
With a defensive stance, the Union did their best to limit the Houston Dynamo on Sunday night at PPL Park in the first of two-game aggregate series in the opening round of the 2011 MLS Cup Playoffs. However, the plan backfired.
With a pair of first-half goals on the five-man backfield of the Union, the Dynamo defeated the hosts, 2-1, to take the opening game of the series.
The loss by one goal means that on Thursday at Robertson Stadium, the Union must win by two goals to take series, but need to win by one in regulation to take the series to overtime.
The Dynamo shocked the PPL Park crowd in the fifth minute, when playmaker Brad Davis threaded a free kick into the Union box, where it deflected off the head of Andre Hainault and into the right of the Union goal for the 1-0 lead.
