Reports: Former L.A. Kings coach may head up Phantoms
The search for the next coach of the Adirondack Phantoms could be in its final stages.
According to several reports Saturday, veteran NHL coach Terry Murray is the front-runner to take over the Phantoms. The news was first reported by Renaud Lavoie of RDS in Montreal.
Murray was most recently coach of the Los Angeles Kings. He was fired in December after three-and-a-half seasons. The Kings went on to win the Stanley Cup.
Following up on the RDS report, the Philadelphia Daily News reached Flyers General Manager Paul Holmgren, who told the paper he had spoken to Murray, but that “nothing is in place.”
Murray is under contract with Los Angeles for another year. The Daily News reported that Holmgren received permission from the organization to speak to Murray.
The Los Angeles Times and the LaKings Insider blog, which appears on the Kings wesbite, also reported that Murray was near a deal with the Philadelphia Flyers and could become coach of the Phantoms.
